Membership on the Board of Trustees / Police Officers is specified in the following ordinance of the city code as enacted by the City of South Miami Commission:
Section 16-33(a). There is hereby created a Board of Trustees of the City of South Miami Police Officers' Retirement Trust Fund, (Ord. 16-79-1038) which Board shall consist of three (3) police officers who are participants of the Fund (to be selected by the police Fund participants); three (3) residents of the City; and, a seventh trustee selected by a majority of the previous six (6) trustees, and appointed as a ministerial duty by the City Commission (all are to be appointed by the City Commission), for a period of two (2) years.
